I was born with a rare birth anomaly affecting my right hand. Seeking assurance that I’d be okay, my dad asked my great-grandmother for life advice. She said, “What God takes from one hand, he gives to the other.” Her wisdom rings true in my life. Beyond the visible, my strengths far outnumber my challenges.

As an adult, I discovered that mood difficulties run in my family. During college, I was diagnosed with a mood disorder, an invisible disability. With treatment, I’ve stabilized and no longer experience the extreme mood swings often associated with my condition. However, I had to let go of my dream of becoming a trial lawyer and pursue a less stressful career to maintain inner harmony.

I’ve become stronger by enduring adversity and challenging stereotypes about disabilities. I previously worked as an advocate for those with disabilities. Now I am pursuing a graduate degree in teaching ESL. My experiences have shaped me into someone who defies conventional images of disability.

In the dating realm, societal stigma has often been a bigger barrier than my conditions themselves. That’s why I’m grateful for a platform where I can be open about my differences and connect with others who understand. I’m excited to meet people who appreciate my journey and the person I’ve become

In the case of online dating, an ideal 1st date would be meeting at an open public place like a cafe where we could chat and get to know each other in a casual setting without feeling pressured. I love hot air balloon rides and romantic dinners as much as the next guy, but we could save that for later, if the chemistry were right.
