I Would Describe Myself As
I spend a lot of my time reading, mainly history, biographies and a wide variety of literature. I occasionally attend adult education classes in Art Appreciation and like to attend films at the local university cinema as well as the theatre. On the lighter side I enjoy a good quiz.
I regularly take day trips to the countryside within a wide radius of my local area. I enjoy visiting the seaside and countryside to take wheelchair walks.
I take my OS map to help me discover out of the way places. I like to wander through sleepy villages and their churches to soak up their atmosphere and get a feeling for the lives of the people who have lived there over the centuries.
I also enjoy visiting historic buildings and gardens.
I grew up wanting to put something back into a society that had enabled me to develop and use my potential abilities and try to make the world and the community I live in a better place. This has led me to be involved over the years as a school governor, councillor and participation in other organisations in my local community.
I also help to organise and plan a small local film club called Cinema Paradiso, which also serves as a film discussion group. Organisation is one of my strengths.
I read the Guardian and listen to Radio 4.
I believe people would describe me as energetic, educated, well read and with a well developed sense of humour. I can see the funny side of most situations even when I am the 'victim'. When I set out to achieve something I always work hard to see it through.
I am often spontaneous and enjoy the pursuit of new experiences. I enjoy a good conversations and observing people which probably stems from my sociological training!
Those close to me say I make a romantic and supportive partner.
I am very independent and take every opportunity to live life to the full.
I had a brain haemorrhage in 1991 and get about in a powered wheelchair. I live in the Kent countryside in a converted farm building and have taken a lot of trouble to create an attractive and comfortable space inside and out. I am particularly proud of my garden which provides me with a great deal of enjoyment.
I retired from my job as a lecturer in higher education in 1991.
I would like to meet someone to share interests and activities with, both theirs and mine.
