I am 30 years old and have a rare neuromuscular disability called Friedrich’s ataxia (it’s pronounced FREE DRICKS UH TOCKS EE UH). Don’t worry if you have never heard of it, I never had either until I was diagnosed with it in 1998. It’s similar to cerebral palsy, affecting my coordination and motor skills but not mind, nor am I paralyzed. I’ve had it since I was 15 so I missed out on a lot of the things most adolescents go though. Although I’ve had a couple serious relationships, I am single now and hoping to meet someone special. In 2006, I earned a Bachelor’s degree from UK, but didn’t have any luck finding a job after graduation. After about 8 months or so of going on interview after interview and never hearing back from the recruiters, I got really frustrated and just sort of gave up on the prospect of having a career. I figured life is too short just to spend all your time trying to earn a living and not getting any enjoyment out of it, so around the summer of 2007 I decided to fall back on something that I was truly passionate about: poetry. So I found a local poetry group that met every week and started going. In February 2010, I released my first published collection of poetry, “The View from Down Here.” I kept at it and almost exactly two years later I released another collection called, “I’m Fine, but Thanks for Asking.” So I read out in public sometimes; every month I am a regular presenter at Lexington’s most popular poetry event, Holler—maybe you’ve heard of it…maybe not. What else? I like all types of music, especially jazz, funk and blues. I’m kind of a night owl. I like going to the movies, out to eat, doing things outdoors (like going to concerts, festivals, fairs, etc.) but mostly I’m a homebody and I avoid crowds. I try to take good care of myself by eating right and exercising regularly. I have a good strong immune system too, so besides the ataxia I’m really as healthy as a horse—physically, that is. I am a little bit lonely and at times depressed but only cause I don’t have that much contact. I don’t work and don’t get out a whole lot. I was seeing someone for a long time but it ended in February after nearly a year and a half. What am I looking for? To meet a nice, like-minded girl who can overlook the chair and other shortcomings and accept me for me, someone to be friends with first and then see where it goes from there. If you can, you may discover a funny, intelligent, good-looking guy with a lot of love to give, looking for something else in life to be passionate about. It could be you!

hanging out at the house with friends or family, sitting outside reading a good book or vegging out and watching something on TV (well Netflix, I hate regular TV!); other times I might go out for a walk, to a movie or out to eat. Occasionally I enjoy going to a concert, play, museum, art gallery or some other kind of cultural event in the community.

Cosa cerchi?

Someone I can get along with, laugh with, watch a movie with, go out with, have fun with, share with and just be happy with. But I also don't need someone too clingy, high maintenance or totally dependant on me to enjoy themselves. If you are looking for someone to baby or spoil you, to take care of you, or to put you up on some kind of undo pedestal, I am probably not what you're looking for.
